What is Ayurveda?

You'll find an earlier post about Ayurvedic Herbs. I'd like to recommend you a great site offering Ayurvedic products.
Let's see firs what Ayurveda means. Ayurveda is a Sanskrit word that means "knowledge, or science of life".It began in India almost 5,000 years ago. Ayurveda is "knowledge of healthy living" that goes far beyond merely treating illness. It is part of a complex philosophical and holistic system rooted in the Vedas - the ancient, legendary religious texts of the Ayurvedic pharmacopoeia, or arsenal of herbal supplements, includes over 600 plants and 8,000 botanical recipes for combining healing plants.

Ayurveda may be the oldest organized holistic healing system in the world. In this elaborate and sophisticated approach to health care, herbal treatments, massage, dietary adjustment, physical exercise, climate and sunshine, yoga, and meditation are delicately combined to harmonize your internal and external states.

Today, as news about India's ancient knowledge rapidly spreads, Ayurveda has garnered praise throughout the Western world. Long before most American consumers knew about Ayurveda, Western pharmaceutical researchers had already discovered the virtues of India's legendary herbal supplements.
